It is hard to remember what Tommy was like mood-wise prior to 4 months. At 4 months he got his first double ear infection. This first ear infection turned into about 6 other ear infections or one giant, never ending one—either way he was miserable. So miserable that he was making all of us feel the same way. I started to believe my baby had colic or something, no one could believe he was that mad all the time. One doctor believed he was constipated and put him on prunes—that solved one problem but didn’t improve his mood. :) You literally could not set him down. He had to sleep upright on top of me. We had all 3 different antibiotics at least 2-3 times each and the ear numbing drops. Our family doctor finally recommended we see the ENT. We saw him in the middle of March. Tommy’s ear infection had just started to clear so with spring right around the corner he recommended we wait it out a little longer. So we did nothing. Two weeks later another ear infection. Finally we called and scheduled the surgery. Tommy had tube surgery on 4/17/13. Both mommies were very nervous. Susie went back with him and I waited nervously in the waiting room. Everyone told us that by that night or the next day we would have a brand new baby that would magically be in a good mood and sleep through the night. We didn’t get that brand new baby. The surgery was successful but he still had an ear infection that just wouldn’t clear. He seemed to be better for a couple days and then have a few bad days. We let this drag on for 6 weeks until our follow up with the ENT. He was shocked that his ear was still draining green pus and quickly prescribed turbo ear drops. These ones were 10 times more expensive but after 7 days on those we finally have our “new baby”. His mood and personality is like night and day. He is happy and smiling all the time now. So happy it makes me feel guilty not doing something sooner.
