Two week well check

I had my two week well check today with Dr. Montague.  Funny that my two week well check was on my due date!  (12/30/09)  :)  Everything was great & my doctor and all of the nurses are so nice!

I was really good during the appointment and didn't cry much.  I did have a little accident when they were getting my weight  - I peed all over the scale.  :)  Besides that, I checked out great.  I have a blocked tear duct, which my mommies have been watching for a while now.  It's normal though, and there's not much you can do.  I also showed the first signs of cradle cap today too, which is also normal.  Here are my stats:

Weight:  8lb, 12.8oz  (57th percentile)
Height:  20.47 in (48th percentile)
Head circumference (53rd percentile)

Checking out my eyes.

Mommy - don't take my picture!

Not so sure about this.

I think I was being a little stubborn in this one - turning my face away from Dr. Montague.

Now I'm cooperating!

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

As for my development, I'm starting to focus my eyes more on objects, people and voices.  I'm also starting to grab a little.  (mostly my mommies fingers)  We're doing tummy time every day, and my neck is getting really strong!  We're also reading every day, and I'm starting to pay more attention to the books.  My mommies favorite book to read to me is "I Love You Stinky Face" - we read that at least once a day.  We also read "Prayer Book" every night before bed - thanks Aunt Kathy!!

Mine and mommy's first week at home alone...

Mommy and I have been so lucky to have help the first two weeks of my life.  For my first week, Mama stayed home with us.  For my second week, Grandma and Grandpa Morawitz were here.  This week, with Mama back at work, Mommy and I have been on our own.  So far, it's going really well.  I've decided to behave more at night and I now sleep for 3 hours at a time.  (no more, no less .... literally 3 hours on the dot each time)  Then for my first long morning nap each day, Mommy's starting to try me out in my crib.  (you know, that beautiful, huge piece of furniture sitting in my room that never gets used?!)  :)  I've been lasting about 1 hour in my crib, then I usually wake up and Mommy moves me to my swing or (when I get my way) to her shoulder.  Usually after my morning nap, Mama's home since she gets home at about 12:30 every day, so that's nice.  Below are a few pictures Mommy has captured with her phone of me sleeping/relaxing:

Resting on Mommy's knees, contemplating something.  (probably contemplating what sort of prize I'm going to leave in my diaper)  :)

My First Christmas!

Okay, so my mommies did a terrible job capturing pictures of my first Christmas, but it was GREAT!  We started out Christmas morning with Grandma and Grandpa Morawitz at our house.  I got really spoiled with lots of fun toys, clothes and a contribution toward my college fund.  (pretty sure my mommies are hoping that college fund goes toward Mizzou or Wisconsin)  :)

After Christmas morning at our house, Grandma and Grandpa Morawitz left to head back to Missouri and we went over to Grandma and Grandpa McNamara's to celebrate Christmas with all of our family over there.  (all of my aunts, uncles and cousins were there too!!)  I again got VERY spoiled while we were there.  Grandma and Grandpa McNamara got me lots of really cool toys that I can't wait to play with!  I also got lots of cute clothes and my very first customized blanket from Aunt Kelly and Uncle Dave.  Aunt Jessie and Uncle Dan drew my name in the Christmas exchange, and I got a baby book as my main gift.  (they had to give that one to us a little early since I made an early appearance!)

Finally, on Saturday we went to Great Grandma Krumm's to celebrate Christmas with the extended family.  Aunt Kathy drew my name (well, technically Andy drew it) and she got me tons of great books (including a baby sign language book), a cute outfit and two Christmas ornaments.  (one is for my handprint, so my mommies already took prints!)

Below are a couple of pictures my mommies captured of me in my Christmas outfit.  It was a little big.  They bought it before I was born when the doctors thought I would be over 10 pounds.  Rather than take it back in exchange for a smaller one, they just decided to let me drown in it.  :)

Grandma & Grandpa Morawitz came to visit!

My Grandma and Grandpa Morawitz from Arizona came to visit me this past week!  They actually drove in from Missouri to see me and to spend Christmas with us.  We had lots of fun, and my mommies got in some good naps while Grandma and Grandpa watched me, which was nice for them.

Sitting with Grandma while she reads to me.

More time with Grandma.  Check out my jeans!  First time I've worn anything other than a onesie.  What do you think?

With Grandpa!

Getting initiated into the "cool dudes" club.  Grandpa did this to me.

Rub a dub, dub, my first time in the tub!

Guess how long it took for my mommies to give me my first bath at home?  A whole week!!  I know, right!?  Seems irresponsible.  They did wipe me down with water several times before my bath due to the fact that I'm already kind of a messy eater, so they didn't want to wash me too much and dry out my skin.  In case you were wondering if I liked the bath, I'll let you judge for yourself based on the pictures.  :)

If only pictures had audio.  :)

Still enjoying myself thoroughly.

After the bath ... still not happy, but winding down.

So many visitors!

I was a lucky girl my first week of life!  I had lots of family come visit me at the hospital and when I got home.  My mommies were a little sleep deprived and didn't remember to take pictures of me with all of my visitors, but they tried to capture a few.  They did miss getting a picture of Aunt Jessie when she visited me at the hospital, and Aunt Jessie, Uncle Dan and cousin Ella when they visited me at home.  They also missed getting a picture of Aunt Kelly with me at the hospital on Friday and Saturday, but I sure did appreciate the visits!

My mommies didn't get a shot of me with my second cousin Heidi when she visited, but they did take a picture of the beautiful art work that my second cousins (Heidi & Casey's kids) made for me!  Thanks Libby, Tessa & Waylan!  (it's hard to tell in a photo, but it says "Maggie")

My photo shoot!

My mommies always got on my aunts about not sending enough pictures and not updating their blogs enough.  They haven't said a word since I was born.  :)  Mama did have a photo shoot with me in order to get our Christmas cards together and to find some pictures to frame.

I asked mommy to only include the happy pictures, but she thought sharing some of the "not happy" pictures was a more accurate view of how the photo shoot went.  :)

Quick shot of me before the photo shoot in the swing Grandma Morawitz gave to me.

Mama was trying to get a shot of my feet, but I started to roll around, so instead, she got my rear end.  :)

This one is my mommies favorite.

Holding mommy's hand.

Letting my mommies know that they better speed up this photo shoot because I'm losing patience.

Content again, but not for long.

This was just plain cruel.

Still not happy.  It's almost time to eat here, so I'm getting pretty angry.

You would never guess that they got this shot about 1 minute after the previous one.  :)

Trying to get a good shot of my rear end.  Not nice.

My brother Joey was feeling left out.

Passed out in my bouncy chair after an exhausting photo shoot.

My first night home!

First of all, my mommy wants to apologize for not updating the blog in such a long time.  Apparently I'm a lot of work.  :)  So, I'm going to try to use the next few postings to update you on what we've been up to the past few weeks.

To start, I wanted to share a few shots of me coming home from the hospital.  My mommies had an interesting first night with me.  I basically slept all day in the hospital, so my mommies thought they had it made.  Little did they know that I simply had my days and nights confused, so when we got home from the hospital on Saturday, Dec 12 at around 7PM, I was just waking up.  :)  I slept the whole way home in the car, and didn't start screaming until we got home.  No one slept much that night.  I rarely slept, and when I did, one of my mommies would touch my face or grab my hand to make sure I was breathing.  Hopefully they'll relax at some point!  I ended up spending the majority of the night on mommy's shoulder.  She didn't sleep much, but it made her feel better to hear me breathing.  Here are some pictures of me on the way home.  They put the camera away once we got home and things got crazy.  :)

Getting in the car seat for the first time.  Thanks Grandma McNamara for the car seat and Mary Jo for the Bundle Me!  Kept me safe and warm on the way home!!!

Another shot of me in the car seat.

Starting to get angry, but my mommies had no idea what was in store for them!  ;)

I'm here!

I decided to surprise my mommies last Friday by making an early appearance into the world!  While I do plan to write most of this blog from my perspective, my mommy insisted on writing the "birth story" in her own words.  So while she writes, I guess I'll nap...

Maggie joined us on Friday, December 11 at 5:20 PM.  On Friday morning, I woke up at around 6:30.  I was working from home that morning, so I laid around for a minute trying to motivate myself to get my big belly out of bed.  I finally decided to get up and go to the bathroom in the hopes that it would wake me up enough to start my day.  As soon as I got to the bathroom, I felt a gush.  I questioned it for a minute, but I quickly realized that my water had broken.  I immediately called Tina, but she didn't answer.  (she was already at work)  I sent her a no-nonsense text stating simply "CALL ME!".  She called a few minutes later, and dropped everything she was doing to race home to get me.  In the meantime, I was still feeling pretty good, so I went ahead and showered and gathered a few additional items for the hospital that we hadn't packed yet.

Once Tina got home, (about an hour after my water broke) we left the house to take Joey (our dog) to her parents' house.  It was in the car that the contractions started to hit.  I had been having Braxton Hicks contractions for a couple of months, and I soon realized how nice those were compared with the real thing.  :)

Once we got to the hospital, they had to run a test to make sure I was truly in labor.  I "passed" the test, and we were admitted to labor and delivery.  They brought us to our room and we met our first nurse for the day - Mirena.  We weren't too fond of Mirena.  We think she might have been new or something, but she questioned everything she did and kind of had a negative attitude about things.  (luckily, but the time we were actually pushing later, the nurses had changed shifts, so we got a new one)  Things went pretty well at the beginning.  They started me on a saline drip.  (after 4 failed attempts at finding a good vein - ouch!)  After about an hour, they checked me, and I had only dilated 1cm.  (same as I was a week before when my doctor checked me)  So basically, no progress.  They decided to start me on pitosin (sp?) at this point.  (I quickly nicknamed pitosin the "devil's feed" because it made the contractions come on quick and far more intense)  After a couple of hours w/ the pitosin, I started to dilate very quickly.  Up to this point, I was managing the pain without medications, but I then had the "contraction of all contractions" that caused me to cry and nearly vomit.  I decided after this point, it was time for an epidural.  (I was around 4cm)

The doctor came in to give me an epidural.  It was kind of scary a scary sensation when he was giving me the shot.  At one point, he told me I might feel a little "zinger" in my leg, but it was important for me to remain still.  I felt the zinger and jumped.  Luckily, the epidural still worked and I'm not paralyzed.  :)  Who could sit still during a "zinger"?!!  Once the epidural went to work, it was smooth sailing.  I heard a rumor that the contractions became really big and close together, but I didn't feel a thing.  :)  I went from 4cm to 10cm in about 2 hours.  (it was during this time that our nurses changed, and Mirena left & was replaced by Liz)  Nurse Liz was great!  Once I got to 10cm, we were told that the doctor on duty had a surgery, and I needed to try to wait for 30 mins.  It wasn't too difficult since I had the epidural, but I did start to feel some pressure and felt the need to push.  At around 4:45, I told Nurse Liz that I needed to start pushing.  I pushed for about 20 mins, then the doctor came in.  Two contractions later with the doctor, and Maggie Jane was out!  She weighted 7 lbs, 15.5oz.  I know, sounds like 8 lbs, but it's not.  :)

Below are some pictures from labor and Maggie's first moments in the world:

My mommies - early in labor.  (Mommy is still smiling, so this is obviously before the contractions became too intense)  :)

Mommy post-epidural.  My heart rate had dropped a little, so I think that's why she looks concerned.  Or maybe she's just scared about what's about to happen. :)

Mommy's first glance at me.

Me before my first bath!

Me and Mommy.  Doesn't she look happy?

My first bath.  I don't look too happy.

Clean and warm and sporting my new "Maggie" hat thanks to Grandma McNamara.

Exhausted after a long day of hard labor.  I wonder if I'll get paid for all of those hours I put in today?!

Me and Nurse Liz.  She was so nice, she actually came to visit me the next morning to say hi!

While Dr. Callanan took care of my mommy while she was pregnant, Dr. Ozel was the one who delivered me.  She was really nice and mommy thought she had a good, calm energy.  (mommy forgot to take a picture of me and the doctor!)

The finishing touches on my room are complete!

There were a few finishing touches to my room that my mommies still needed to finish when I last posted pictures of it.  Momma (Tina) tapped into her artistic side this week while my other mommy (Susie) was on bed rest (thanks to me ...  ha!) and painted some letters for my room to make it more complete.  I think they actually like my room better than their room now!!  What do you think??

New letters over my bed!  I can't read them yet, but I'm told they say "Maggie".

A big "M" on my wall and fun monkeys over my closet!!

One more look at the entire room taken from the hallway...
